Built in 1951, this small building in the historic center of Santarém has spanned more than seven decades of life. The streets around it changed, generations passed through them, and many stories remained behind. The house stood, keeping within its walls and spaces marks of a time that are part of its identity.
Today, Casa Areia lives a new chapter. Spread over three floors, it was restored with respect for its identity, seeking to preserve what gave it character and reinterpret the space for a more contemporary way of living. The original floor remained, not just as a memory of what once existed, but as part of what the house is today.
Nothing was designed to hide its identity or erase what came before. On the contrary, we sought to find a balance between memory and simplicity, between the marks of the past and the comfort of the present.
